Love Muffin and Chai Latte by Anya Wylde

Why? The last few books have felt a bit heavy, as has life in general to be honest, so I went for a cheap and  easy from Amazon. What? Otherwise known as amazon spiel: Clear your calendar, turn on your voicemail and get cozy on the sofa as Anya Wylde has decided to dip her toes into the world of contemporary romance … Love Muffin and Chai Latte follows the journey of Tabitha Lee Timmons as she deals with financial stress, loony relatives, some crooks, an unhappy bride to be, a grumpy old man and two heartbreakingly handsome men. The Man In The High Castle by Philip K Dick

Why? It is a bit late in the year but I wanted to extend my reading list and not be continually drawn to the same books.   I decided to have a go at Book Riot's 2019 Read Harder Challenge.   This has been going for 5 years and basically encourages “you to push yourself, to take advantage of this challenge as a way to explore topics or formats or genres that you otherwise wouldn’t try. But this isn’t a test. No one is keeping score and there are no points to post. We like books because they allow us to see the world from a new perspective, and sometimes we all need help to even know which perspectives to try out. That’s what this is—a perspective shift—but one for which you’ll only be accountable to yourself.” Have you tried any reading challenges?   Let me know in the comments please.... So here was my first attempt at a perspective shift; task no 2 was an alternate history novel and after a nose on GoodReads, I decided on The Man in the High Castle. What? Othe

My Italian Bulldozer by Alexander McCall Smith

Why? This was the same library van trip as my discovery of  Le Carré .  It was supposed to be summer in Leeds but unfortunately there was just grey and rain.  I needed some relief and Tuscany seemed the way forward. What? Otherwise known as amazon spiel: 'While  My Italian Bulldozer  certainly advocates a kind, considerate, some might even say old-fashioned approach to resolving affairs of the heart, it also succeeds in subtly, almost imperceptibly ripping up the traditional rules of the romantic comedy and creating something refreshingly original'  Scotsman When writer Paul Stewart heads to the idyllic Italian town of Montalcino to finish his already late book, it seems like the perfect escape from stressful city life. Upon landing, however, things quickly take a turn for the worse when he discovers his hired car is nowhere to be found. With no record of any reservation and no other cars available it looks like Paul is stuck at the airport. That is, until an en

Smiley's People by John Le Carré

Why? I was in my beloved library van and just having a nose.  Did I need any more books to add to my tbr?  Quite frankly no but I could not stop myself.  My quest to read classics ( I write this sitting in the kitchen sink ) was on my mind and John Le Carré's work is considered modern classic.  Also I did watch  The Night Manager  on BBC1 and loved it. What? Otherwise known as amazon spiel: The concluding part of John le Carré's celebrated Karla Trilogy,  Smiley's People  sees the last confrontation between the indefatigable spymaster George Smiley and his great enemy, as their rivalry comes to a shattering end. A Soviet defector has been assassinated on English soil, and George Smiley is called back to the Circus to clear up - and cover up - the mess. But what he discovers sends him delving into the past, on a trail through Hamburg and Paris to Cold War Berlin - and a final showdown with his elusive nemesis, Karla. 'An enormously skilled and satisfying
